The GrabFood service is a convenient way to get food without the hassle of having to dress up and drive somewhere. But the service definitely has its setbacks. Back in May, an X user shared her experience of being called “stupid” and having her food thrown because she didn’t answer her GrabFood driver’s call. Now X user @qayunn or Nisa has shared her unnerving experience of a driver insisting on entering her house at 2 am.
Nisa wrote a Twitter thread about a GrabFood driver, whom we’ll call Nas who delivered food at 2 am in the morning. He asked to use her toilet and even though Nisa said she wasn’t able to help, he still insisted.
Nisa said she felt uneasy about the request so she called the security guard to ask if he had left her apartment premises. The guard went up to her floor to check and Nas was still alarmingly still lingering at the end of the corridor. When she checked the time, 20 minutes had already passed. Nisa sarcastically said that Nas continued to “enjoy himself” by lounging in the corridor after that playing games, and smoking like nothing had happened.
During that time, Nisa didn’t dare to open her grill door to retrieve her food so it sat there for 20 minutes. She managed to record a video of him through a crack in the door and she was infuriated when she watched the video. She could hear Nas telling the guard, “Am I disturbing her?”.
The excuse Nas had given her was that the battery of his phone was almost dead and he had to go to the toilet. Nisa said that she was already a cautious person but had to be even more so after this incident. She also shared his Whatsapp status, which scarily read, “Don’t play with crazy people *smirking emoji*.
She also reported the incident to Grab Malaysia, but they said that they could not disclose the action they had taken.
Other X users agreed that Nas’ actions were very suspicious.
"This is so creepy, are you okay? Remember to lodge a report, at least you have proof if anything happens. If you have problems with him again, let your friends nearby know. This is so worrying."
One user commented, "I’ve experienced this before. Riders would save the phone numbers of customers and harass them. This is why Grab started hiding personal numbers so that you can call directly through the app. But this guy went the extra mile."
"My sister experienced this with a courier delivery man. He asked her to open the gate because the item was too big, but actually, he could have just left it outside the gate. My sister called her husband and the man immediately said he would place the item outside. Be careful, girls."
Another netizen commented, "Next time for delivery riders, ask them to pass items to the security guard. It is better to collect from them in most cases."
This is a reminder to be careful about disclosing your personal information, especially your address!
