What's the point of going on an expensive holiday if you can't show off and rub it in the faces of your friends back at home, right?The popular photo sharing app, Instagram, has given travellers an avenue to share pictures of their adventures with their loved ones, to remind them that they are enjoying their holiday while you're stuck behind your desk at work (ugh!).
The social media site, which has more than 500 million active users daily, has just released its 2017 statistics and these beautiful cities made the list of the most Instagram'ed this year:
#10 Barcelona, Spain
Home to the La Sagrada Familia and, uhh, Lionel Messi, the beautiful Catalonian city is famous for its modernist landmarks designed by world-famous architect Antoni Gaudí and several Roman archaeological sites.#9 Istanbul, Turkey
The most populous city in Turkey, Istanbul is one of the more popular holiday destinations in the world. Its Old City boasts breath-taking landmarks influenced by the many empires that once ruled the city.#8 Jakarta, Indonesia
When we said only one South East Asian city made the list, you thought it was Singapore, huh? Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia and is home to many Dutch colonial buildings. We are actually surprised Bali didn't make the cut.#7 Saint Petersburg, Russia
Saint Petersburg is known as the cultural center of Mother Russia, and these Instagram photos show! The beautiful city is home to several impressive (and of course, super beautiful) landmarks, such as Church of the Savior on Blood, the Mariinsky Theatre and the iconic Bronze Horseman statue.#6 Los Angeles, California
Ah, the land where all your dreams come true. With its always-nice weather, countless surf beaches, iconic landmarks and endless celebrity sightings, it's really not a surprise that L.A. is one of the top Instagram'ed cities this year.#5 Paris, France
There's no way Paris is not in the list, right? The City Of Love is one of the most visited and Instagram'ed cities this year, thanks to its 19th century cityscape which boasts landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral. Oh Paris, we're in love!#4 Sao Paulo, Brazil
Sao Paulo is the only South American country to make the list, and we can see why. One of the most populous countries in the world, Sao Paulo boasts a rich architectural tradition. The São Paulo Cathedral is truly a sight to behold.#3 London, United Kingdom
The land of Prince Harry and double decker busses cracks top three in the list. We are pretty sure the 'Big Ben', the Buckingham Palace, the Tower Of London and the London Eye are permanent fixtures in your Instagram feed.#2 Moscow, Russia
Looks like Russia is the place to be this year, huh? The capital and most populous city of Russia is known for its magnificent, colourful, onion-shaped domes such as the Red Square and the St. Basil’s Cathedral. You better be Putin Moscow in your travel list next year.

Well, the Big Apple is the big winner this year.
