The annual Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA’s) are presented every December as part of the Singapore Media Festival and serve to recognise excellence in the film and television industry across 16 nations in the Asia-Pacific region. This year, Malaysia’s leading content and entertainment company, Astro, made the country proud by sweeping 16 awards across the 36 categories.
Among the most notable awards won included ‘One Cent Thief’ for Best Drama Series, ‘Polis Evo 3’ for Best Feature Film, and ‘Mechamato Movie’ for Best Animated Programme or Series (2D OR 3D). ‘Liar’, Astro's adaptation of the BAFTA-nominated British thriller series of the same name, also took home the award for Best Adaptation of an Existing Format.

The winners were announced on 23 September and on 6 September, the Grand Awards and Gala Final will be staged at Singapore’s CHIJMES Hall, a 19th-century Gothic-style chapel which was the location for the iconic wedding scene in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.
The Asian Academy of Creative Arts bases its scoring system on that of the International Emmy Awards so that work from the Asia-Pacific region can be benchmarked against the rest of the world. The AAA’s honours excellence across multiple platforms including television, feature films, digital, mobile, streaming and any other emerging technologies.
Last year, multiple Astro shows also went home with trophies at the awards including Star vs Food Malaysia which was crowned the Grand Final Winner of the ‘Best Adaptation of an Existing Format’ category.
