M'sian Para-athlete Abdul Latif Romly Breaks Own World Record at Delhi Championships

Malaysia’s para long jump athlete, Datuk Abdul Latif Romly, made history by breaking the world record at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, India, yesterday.

According to reports, Latif set a new record of 7.67m in the Men’s F20 long jump event on his third attempt, surpassing his previous world record of 7.64m, which he set at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Latif’s jump also became the best ever recorded at the New Delhi championships, beating the previous record of 7.61m.

In the same category:

  • Silver went to Hassan Dawshi of Saudi Arabia with a 7.36m effort.
  • Bronze was awarded to Matvei Iakushev, a Neutral Paralympic Athlete (NPA), who jumped 7.22m.

“I dedicate this medal to my wife and children. Going forward, I’ll balance training while making time for my wife and our baby who’s on the way,” Latif said.

Last year, Latif, who hails from Perlis, made Malaysia proud by winning silver at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

He competed in the Long Jump T20 (learning disability) category and secured the medal with a jump of 7.45m.
