Enforcement actions taken against road users are not meant as punishment, but is a way to discipline to improve road safety, Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Mohd Zaki Ismail said.

He also said that the actions are usually the last resort.

RTD officers also engage in advocacy and advice motorists so that they understand that every rule and law imposed is for their interest, Malay Mail reported.

Mohd Zaki said that some vehicle owners who love modifying their wheels do so despite knowing that it could be dangerous and could cause accidents.

"For example, the use of High Intensity Discharged (HID) light, it can cause temporary blindness and this can lead to accidents,” he reportedly told the press during a block in Cheras.

During the operation 1,750 vehicles were inspected and action was taken against 197 of them for several offences including not having a valid license, driving with expired road tax and others.

RTD issued 365 notices with the highest number of notices given to those driving without a valid license (170), using "fancy"" number plates (70), and without valid road tax (67).

The authorities also nabbed 10 people for driving under the influence after they tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis.

Road blocks can be annoying but as long as motorist ignore the rule, it is necessary. Let us all strive to be safer and better drivers!
