#GempakSpot: Miracle Baby In Terengganu Born From Frozen Embryo After Six Years
If you are pining to have a child after years of waiting, there is still hope.
An embryo that was frozen for six years was successfully born as a baby boy in Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ).
According to Bernama, the product of a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) procedure created a historic success for the hospital's In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) efforts.
The baby’s mother Noor'adn Muhammad, 38, and father Mohd Yuhairi Haniff Yoon, 37, had their first child weighing 3.34kg after 13 years.
The couple previously had two failed pregnancies via IVF, and took a break to prepare mentally and physically to undergo future treatment.
Since resuming treatment, Noor'adn took a no-pay leave, maintained a healthy diet and avoided walking long distances to ensure a healthy delivery.
The hospital’s specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Nasuha Yaacob said the baby was the 20th test-tube baby born at the hospital.
"The couple was fortunate to have had an embryo that was of good quality, despite being frozen for six years," she said, because there is a maximum five-year limit after the embryo is frozen.
Currently, there are four government hospitals in Malaysia offering IVF treatment, including HSNZ (east coast zone), Hospital Kuala Lumpur (central zone), Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (northern zone) and Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak Sabah (Sabah and Sarawak).
So if you are looking into an IVF or FET procedure, do consult the doctors at the hospitals mentioned.
