Committing These 7 Traffic Offences Could Land You in Court This CNY

This coming Chinese New Year, you may be excited about travelling back to your hometown to dig into some steamboat with your relatives or to make a drive over to your friend’s place for their open house celebrations. However, drivers should be forewarned that committing certain traffic offences which are non-compoundable could put a damper on your celebrations instead.
After officiating the Integrated Ops and Road Safety Campaign in conjunction with the upcoming CNY celebrations, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that anyone caught flouting them will not be offered a fine but will instead be referred to the courts.
The seven major traffic offences are: Loke said, “There will be no compound issues for these offences. Offenders will be referred to court.” This will be in effect from now until 28 January as part of a traffic and safety operation known as ‘Op Bersepadu’. During last year’s CNY celebrations, 119 deaths were recorded.
He also mentioned that 2,000 officers from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be deployed in an effort to reduce road crashes and deaths throughout the nation. The department will be stricter in enforcement and officers could even disguise themselves as passengers and ride express buses during operations.

Good-carrying Vehicles To Be Banned During CNY

Good-carrying vehicles will also be banned from going on the roads to reduce congestion on the roads. This ban will be in effect from 20-21 January, two days before CNY, and from 24- 25 January.
