May 2024 Recap: 4 M'sians Listed in Forbes 30 Under 30, Faisal Halim Acid Attack & Blockout 2024 #RDRECAP

Four young Malaysians made the nation proud by being listed in Forbes' prestigious 30 Under 30 list, showcasing their exceptional talents and contributions across various fields. However, the country was also shaken by the tragic acid attack on footballer Faisal Halim.

4 Malaysians made it into Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia

This year, Sivasangari Subramaniam, 25, Angel Low, 26, Erica Eng, 25, and Lee Zhe Xi, 27, were included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia edition.

Each of them are champions of their own industry. Sivasangari is our squash player, having represented the country internationally since her teens. Meanwhile, Angel Low is a principal at The Hive Southeast Asia. Erica Eng is an animator and artist who gained international recognition with her debut webcomic and Lee Zhe Xi is the co-owner of an omakase restaurant, Eat and Cook.

Selangor FC player Faisal Halim attacked with acid at a shopping centre in PJ

On 5th May, Malaysian football player Faisal Halim was attacked with acid in Kota Damansara. The 26-year-old player suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body and was treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for about 10 days.

Since the investigation started in May, police have recorded statements from 23 people and detained three suspects. However, no evidence could be linked to any of them.

Blockout 2024 begins in America, but it soon makes its way to Malaysia, targeting a number of local celebrities

Following the 2024 Met Gala, a global movement known as Blockout 2024 was started to block celebrities and influencers who have not publicly supported Palestine in light of the current crisis in Gaza.

In Malaysia, several names have been posted on the list, including a number of influencers and celebrities.
