BEHIND THE WHEEL
15 Bikers On A Convoy Summoned A Total Of RM75,000 For The Ride Of Their Lives
Look, we understand that not being able to go for a drive or ride can be frustrating. We sympathise, we really do; but Covid-19 cases are sky high and the lockdown is meant to bring that number under control by limiting the movement of everyone.
Nobody’s exempted; except maybe ministers, but that’s another durian for another day.
Some of you that think you were born better than the rest might falsely believe you’re smarter than the rest as the emptier roads during the lockdown would be ideal for a drive or ride since less traffic on the road. You’re right… but the Malaysian police were born the best.
Hence, that’s how 15 bikers on their big bikes riding in a convoy along the popular Jalan Semenyih-Kuala Klawang route were caught on 26 June 2021 at 10.25am and issued with a RM5,000 compound each for their feeble attempt at outsmarting the team from the Kajang traffic police division.
Decked in their Saturday’s best; that’s full riding leathers, the 15 men aged between 18 and 41 years old were compounded under the Section 16 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Local Areas of Infection) Regulations 2021.
“Police received a tip-off about a group of bikers using that particular road as their racing track and decided to quietly put up a mobile roadblock at the entrance, where the group was nabbed,” said District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan to The New Straits Times.
“We kept the mobile roadblock for two days and also issued a total of 19 summonses for various traffic offences for both days,” he added.
Lesson of the day is… don’t try and outsmart the police.
