A facelift for sure, given that the new BMW 5 Series 530e M Sport now wears the M Aerodynamics package and sports larger kidney grilles. Opinions might split on the grille, but there’s no denying the M aero-kit elevates the car’s premium executive look.

Flanking the grilles are the new slimmer headlights with redesigned DRLs. Adaptive LED Matrix headlights shine the road with standard LED headlights. The executive sedan is also equipped with the BMW Selective Beam high-beam assist with turning lights and adaptive cornering function. Complementing the headlight, the rear LED taillights flashes with the signature BMW L-shape.

On the body, the 530e features the BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line frame. Bumpers in the front and rear have been redesigned with larger air intakes. The light source directly integrates with the taillight’s outermost layer, giving it a full 3D effect. Below the lights, double-exhaust tailpipe finishes with a trapezoidal design and distinctive diffuser insert finish the rear.

The BMW 530e rides on 19-inch M light-alloy Y-Spoke 845 M Bi-Colour Jet Black wheels wrapped with mixed and runflat tyres. Adaptive Suspension and the M Sport Brake with blue M Sport brake callipers are also included in the new 530e.

The letter M has also made its way into the 530e in the form of the M leather steering wheel and the sport seats. The interior is finished in Aluminium Rhombicle, Dakota Leather upholstery and BMW Individual anthracite headliner.

Running on the latest BMW Operating System 7 is the BMW Live Cockpit Professional that allows users to configure the 12.3-inch instrument cluster and touchscreen Control Display. Navigation is programmed into the system, as is with BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, two USB ports, 4G LTE connectivity, Remote Software Upgrade and over-the-air map updates.

Owners can interact with the 530e through the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. One can ask the car to make phone calls, adjust the temperature, navigation, windscreen heating, sun-blind activation and lowering all windows automatically. What else? The BMW 530e M Sport gets sound from a HiFi Loudspeaker system as standard.

At the heart of the matter is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with the latest generation BMW eDrive electric motor. Together, they hand over a total output of 292hp and 420Nm, of which 109hp comes from the electric motor. With an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, the 530e accomplishes the 0-100kph sprint in 5.9 seconds and up to a top speed of 235kph.

Being a hybrid vehicle, the 530e is also efficient, registering a fuel economy of 2.3l per 100km and 53g per km of CO2. The 530e boasts a pure-electric range of up to 67km, which is higher than its previous offering. The eDrive button changes the drive computer. On standard Auto eDrive, the car can go up to 110kph on pure electricity. Engage Max eDrive and the 530e can go up to 140kph without sipping fuel. When needed, the BMW Xtra Boost injects 40hp more during acceleration.

Its depleted battery can get fully charged within three hours and 35 minutes when plugged into a BMW iWallbox. Or six hours with a conventional wall socket and standard charging cable.

Aside from the usual alphabet soup of active safety features like DSC, DTC, CBC, DBC and ABS, the 530e is equipped with a specially-designed sound blared through a loudspeaker system. This isn’t meant to shock but warn pedestrians and cyclists when the car moves in full electric at speeds of up to 30kph.

The BMW 530e M Sport is priced at RM343,000.00, on-the-road without insurance, complete with a BMW 5-Year Unlimited Mileage Warranty with Free Scheduled Service Programme. You can register for one on the BMW Shop Online platform.
