Dressing up the Volkswagen Beetle isn’t revolutionary. We’ve seen our fair share of Beetles — classic and new — done in the colours of a ladybug and Pikachu. Then, out of nowhere (well, the UK) we have the union between the Mutt Cutts van and the Beetle. Alright, to each his own.
Looking like it needs a good haircut but the lockdown happened, the owner of this furry 1978 Beetle said that “Furbie gets attention wherever she goes, a real head-turner…”. The owner has also driven the car on a 100-mile round trip and vouches for its - sorry, her reliability.
Furbie features furry ears that don’t listen, whiskers that don’t sense and the key at the back can spin with a push of a button. The ‘frunk’ is especially bushy with thick fur growing everywhere except on the spare. You can tell this Beetle hasn't been waxed anywhere.
The shaggy exterior hides an even hairier interior. The roof-lining, pillars and floor, and almost everything in between is wrapped in wool. Only the seats, seat belts, transmission tunnel and fire extinguisher, remain bald.
This 1978 Beetle started life as a two-door car with a 1.6-litre engine handing out the back. FURBIE is for sale, should you want to buy it, for GBP4,700. Seeing that’s it is sold in the UK, it is highly unlikely that it will ever come to Malaysia, which could be a good thing. Imagine how it might smell if it got wet or how frizzy the fur will be in this humidity.
