Big, opulent and a statement that you’ve made it in life, the X7 is an imposing exemplification of luxury within the BMW brand. The all-new BMW X7 xDrive40i in Pure Excellence trim is the latest and quite possibly greatest in BMW’s local line-up, joining the likes of the 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series.
Everything is big and in your face when it comes to the X7. The sheer size of the kidney grilles further accentuates the slender BMW Laserlight headlights. With up to 600m of illumination, the X7 is further complemented with LED fog lamps and high-beam assist.

Along the sides, the striking 21-inch light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke style set of the near-vertical, boxy shape of the X7. Large windows and continuous flowing body lines add to the impression of the sheer vastness of the 7-seater. This xDrive40i Pure Excellence variant also features a fully electric split tailgate in the rear with the Comfort Access feature and two large, rectangular tailpipes adding to the visual heft of this 5.1-metre long behemoth.
Weighing in at an immense 2.4 tonnes, the X7 requires power. Employing the tried and tested 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine, the B56 straight-six lump pushes out 340hp and 450Nm of torque. Mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, and sending power to all four wheels through the xDrive system, the big Bimmer achieves an incredible century sprint time of just 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 250kph. On the other hand, the X7 is capable of combined fuel consumption of 9.5l per 100km and combined carbon emission of 218g per km.
The xDrive all-wheel-drive system of the X7 maximises traction, agility, and handling stability, linking up with the Dynamic Stability Control. Included in the sophisticated chassis design is a two-axle air suspension that manages the vehicle load, road conditions and braking modulation to provide a smooth and supple ride. Like the imported variant, the locally assembled variant of the X7 now comes with the innovative Executive Drive Pro with active roll stabilisation.
Befitting a modern-day maharaja, the interior of the X7 is a marvel of seamless integration of luxury and technology. Wrapped in swaths of leather, the interior is finished with a diamond-cut trim element, along with leather sports steering wheel and all seats being electronically adjustable. Other interior convenience highlights include the Welcome Light Carpet feature, soft close doors, five-zone air conditioning, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound System and electric roller blinds for the side windows.
As with any luxury vehicle worth its salt, the X7 comes with a Rear Entertainment Professional system, while the sense of spaciousness is further enhanced by the large Panorama Roof Sky Lounge. However, unlike a luxury vehicle, the X7 is also practical and utilitarian, with 2,120 litres of cargo space available with the rear seats folded down. Carried from the imported variant, the locally-assembled X7 also comes with BMW Digital Key, wireless charging for mobile phones, and smartphone integration for improved connectivity.
The available tech on-board is also a significant talking point on the X7. Given the sheer size of the X7, BMW has equipped its SAV with Reversing Assistant with surround-view monitor and the comprehensive BMW Driving Assistant. Part of the Driving Assistant includes Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Warning and Front Collision Warning with brake intervention. In addition, active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and Integral Active Steering come as standard to further enhance the safety and comfort of the drive.
BMW Malaysia has provided several customisation options for the X7, offering five exterior finishes with selected interior colour combinations. The exterior colours of Black Sapphire and Sophisto Grey come in Cognac Leather Vernasca upholstery with Black design perforations, while Phytonic Blue and Manhattan Metallic exteriors come complete with a Black design perforated Leather Vernasca interior. Lastly, Leather Vernasca in Coffee with Black design perforations comes exclusively with the Mineral White model.
