We’re about two weeks away from celebrating our 62nd Merdeka. Not to be left out of the occasion, Proton has released a special Proton X70 Merdeka Edition with a limited run of only 62 units.

Each X70 ME will come with a price tag of RM126,100, which is a dab more expensive than the Premium variant that the special edition is based on.

For the price, the X70’s roof and A-pillar will get painted with the signature Quartz Black, all doors will wear visors, and a scuff plate is glued to the rear bumper. To finish the exterior, a customised Merdeka Edition emblem is slapped on the tailgate.

There are special bits on the inside, too. New floor mats, a trunk mat and a numbered plate with the Merdeka Edition emblem are the add-ons to the existing Nappa leather seats and glass roof of the Premium variant.

Everything else from the Premium variant has been brought forward to the X70 ME, including the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Yes, you can expect no bumps in power from the 1.8-litre turbocharged engine.

This limited-edition Proton X70 comes in two colours — Snow White and Flame Red only. Honestly, we’d like to have seen some form of blue and yellow, just because our Jalur Gemilang has those colours. Hint, hint.
