Super Bowl ads can be equated to catwalk season for carmakers. They pull out all the stops to come up with a super cool ad. This year, Porsche is making a huge electric push and has come up with its first Super Bowl ad since 1997 for the flagship of the Taycan range; the Turbo S.

The ad’s pretty cool with the Porsche museum guards playing cops and robbers. One of them pretends to steal the Taycan Turbo S and the rest give chase in a range of iconic Porsches from the museum’s collection.

You’ll find the legendary 917 racecar, a 918 Spyder and the new 911 with a hydraulic handbrake for some slippy slides. If they’re ever looking to hire guards for the museum, this is the ad they should post.

Nonetheless, the internet collectively lost its mind when what appears to be a Miami Blue new 911 with all the right visual upgrades expected of a GT3 pops up around the 0:43 second mark. Porsche themselves told us to look out for a “surprise” in the ad.

Big brakes, centre-lock wheels and that gigantic wing is a dead giveaway that this is the new 992 GT3 we’re looking at. Power will come from a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six and there could even be an optional manual because the 992 range was just blessed with that option.

Porsche is expected to bring a new variant of the 992 911 to Geneva and everyone’s money is on it being the Turbo variant. Don’t be surprised if the GT3 follows soon after.

In the meantime, you may continue dreaming of being a guard at the Porsche museum.
