Since the dawn of the CX-5 so many, many years ago, the one main thing that people wanted for the SUV was more power. Well, now they are getting it. You’re looking at the new Mazda CX-5 Turbo, and you can see it for yourself from today, 4 September till 9 September in Sunway Pyramid.

The turbo mill seems to be plucked from the CX-9 and plonked into the CX-5. The output figures indeed suggest that - the 2.5-litre turbocharged engine produces 228hp at 5,000rpm and 420Nm at 2,000rpm. Power goes to all four wheels through Mazda’s six-speed automatic Skyactiv-Drive.

Also making its way from the CX-9 and into the CX-5 is the climate control panel, albeit this is a dual-zone without independent rear control. What else? The instrument cluster now sports a large colour display in the middle; very similar to the one in the new Mazda3.

The full specifications have yet to be announced, but we expect the CX-5 Turbo to have all the best toys in the catalogue. From the looks of things, the CX-5 Turbo will unseat the 2.2D AWD sibling as the king of this hill. The price is estimated to be in the ballpark of RM180,000.00; Mazda has begun taking orders. Will you be signing up for one?
