BEHIND THE WHEEL
Proton’s First Flagship 4S Centre In The Country Is In Sabah
Expanding its nationwide network has been a major focus point for Proton since Geely came in the picture. The efforts are well underway as the carmaker has extended its lead for the most 3S and 4S outlets in operation nationwide.
Fook Loi Corporation (Sabah) Sdn Bhd, is the latest to join the network and also has the distinction of being the very first Proton flagship 4S centre in the country; located in Kota Kinabalu.

Now just like us, some of you might think calling Fook Loi the first 4S is misleading as Proton already has a number of 4S centres in operation. However, as they kindly clarified for us, there’re varying grades of 4S centres and as the name suggests, the flagship is the best of the lot.
Early in its rebranding efforts, Proton realised that in order to capture and expand its consumer base, it needed to have sufficient outlets to cater to their needs. Ideally, outlets would be spacious, comfortable, pleasing to the eye and have facilities to keep customers happy like free WiFi, a kids’ corner, ample parking space and a coffee area. Equally important, the outlet would have well trained sales and service staff who can provide a high-quality experience.

“These may seem like simple requirements, but they are critical ones. When customers walk into our showroom or service centre, they would like to be greeted by smiling faces and a beautifully lit area. This will then set the tone for more meaningful conversations and customers will feel welcomed and appreciated. Since outlets are our first point of contact, numerous steps have been taken to ensure that a wholesome experience starts here. These efforts have paid off. Our sales have been on an increasing trend and with our new products, we are confident that we are on track for the company’s return to profitability,” said Dr Li Chunrong, the Proton CEO.
But how exactly do they set apart the various grades of 4S centres? Well, that’s solely dependent on the minimum requirements for a number of aspects regarding the outlet. A lot of it falls down to capital injection as well as initial investment for the outlet itself.

The building has to be standalone and of course have the Proton corporate image. There’s even a minimum built-up area required.
It doesn’t stop there though, there’s also criteria for operational aspects such as the number of service bays + hoists, body & paint bays and even display vehicles in the showroom.
All these numbers are aimed at delivering a high-quality customer experience and clearly, Fook Loi has ticked all the boxes with its new facility to be crowned the very first Proton flagship 4S centre in Malaysia. The centre is located along Jalan Cenderakasih, 88450, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
