After what seems like a century and a half, Suzuki returns to Malaysia with a new distributor, Naza Eastern Motors Sdn Bhd. And they are kick-starting their engines with none other than the cult-favourite Suzuki Swift Sport.

Fully imported, the Swift Sport comes with the new 1.4-litre BOOSTERJET turbocharged engine that produces 140hp and 230Nm of torque from 2,500rpm. The Swift Sport has no problems drinking our RON95 this time.

The hatchback comes only with the six-speed automatic transmission, although one can hope that the six-speed manual transmission coming in later. When the six-speed manual comes in, it will be in a higher-spec Swift Sport.

The Swift Sport is built on the new HEARTECT platform engineered with enhanced collision safety. The strengthened underbody rigidity also offers the nippy handling that Swift Sports are always known for. It is also lighter, given the Swift Sport the ideal torque-to-weight ratio that would make it a rocket for the pocket.

Although elements from the previous generation Swift Sport is evident in the new car, the massive honeycomb grille with carbon fibre finish skirting around the vehicle adds another level of sportiness. Invisible pillars and a ‘hidden’ rear door handle makes the hatchback look like a three-door instead of five.

Of course, as if it needs to be emphasised, the Swift Sport comes with semi-bucket seats in the front, complete with a flat-bottom steering wheel. The rear passengers, on the other hand, has more legroom and headroom to wiggle. As for infotainment, the Swift Sport features a seven-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay.

The Swift Sport comes in four colours — Champion Yellow, Burning Red Pearl Metallic, Speedy Blue Metallic and Pearl Pure White. It is priced at RM139,900.00 with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. Those interested to have the Swift Sport can come over to the 3S flagship showroom at the Naza Automall. And yes, test drives are available.
