While you may be anticipating the return of your favourite TV shows such as House of the Dragon, You, or even looking forward to new K-dramas, there are a slew of fresh new local shows you’ll want to keep an eye out for.

You have probably sat on the edge of your seats while watching renowned drama series in 2023 such as Projek : High Council, LIAR, Riot!, and One Cent Thief from Astro Originals, which focuses on quality premium series and fresh storylines. With the new year upon us, there is now a slate of high-quality drama series for 2024.

‘I.D’, ‘Framed’, ‘X-Change’, ‘First Wives’, and ‘Projek : Exit’ are the new shows produced by Astro Shaw with each exploring a different genre and produced in partnership with a variety of production houses and talented directors.

Last year, Projek: High Council beat out popular Hollywood titles on Astro and also garnered over 1 billion views on TikTok, over 23 million social media reach, and was named one of the Top 10 Google Most Searched Shows in 2023. Will any of these shows claim its throne?

Astro Originals has also formed strategic partnerships with production houses such as Alpha 47, Independent Pictures, Radius One, and the best directors in the country, so these are bound to be gems.

Here are the 5 Astro Original series to watch in 2024:

I.D. (Premieres in February)

The series is directed by the director of ‘Projek: Anchor SPM’ and ‘PUSAKA’ Razaisyam Rasyid. It stars actor singer Naim Daniel, Amelia Henderson, Aedy Ashraf, Ellyza Azizi, Datuk Rosyam Nor, and Betty Banafe.

The young adult cybercrime series tells the story of Aidi, an app developer who is constantly bullied. Aidi, being infatuated with renowned influencer Anggun, abuses his expertise in the digital realm by forging his identity and appearance to approach Anggun. His actions, however, drag him deeper into the sinister world of cybercriminals.

Framed

This fantasy investigative thriller stars popular actors Meerqeen and Mimi Lana. Directed by action film director Sein Qudsi, the story follows Lia in her quest for answers about her missing mother through a mysterious Polaroid that prints clues about future tragedies. Little does she know, her search for answers will drag both herself and Edi into a greater conspiracy.

The cast also includes Sangeeta Krishnasamy, Riz Amin, Zamarul Hisham, Khir Rahman, Rusdi Ramli, Vanidah Imran,​ and Ram Raaga.

X-Change

This thrilling action-packed series follows Khalif, a teenager who dreams of studying abroad with his girlfriend, Lilian. But having come from a family of nomadic thieves, Khalif is caught between his aspirations and his duty to his family, and finds himself dragged deeper into a life of crime until a big revelation changes the course of his life.

The coming-of-age crime action romance was created by showrunner Lemuel Ong, and directed by Nurhanisham Muhammad. The series stars Arfie Shah, Joey Leong, Datuk Rosyam Nor, Hariz Hamdan, Marissa Yasmin, Sadiq M. Jamil, Steve Yap​, Ardini @ Angeline Tan, Alvin Wong, and Shweta Sekhon.

First Wives

This show is all about girl power with the tale of two best friends, Diyana and Michelle. After discovering the betrayal committed by their respective husbands, they work together to exact revenge on their husbands. Their first plan of action? To rob Diyana’s husband’s store. As they say, "Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, nor hell a fury like a woman scorned,” so this is bound to be a good one. The show is directed by Imri Nasution and stars Mimi Lana, Malek Mccrone, and Andy Teh.

Projek: Exit

Fans of Projek: High Council and Projek: Anchor SPM, take note because the latest installation of the teen drama and coming-of-age franchise will be returning with a new project.

Created by showrunner and director Zulaikha Zakaria, the series follows the story of a 16-year-old student who, after her failed attempt to commit suicide, is sent to a juvenile correctional facility. There, she befriends a male student and, together, they plan their escape. Shasha Abedul, Amierul Aiman and Naim Daniel star in this highly anticipated show.
