August was a pretty exciting month for K-dramas––we’re currently watching the wacky psychic series ‘Behind Your Touch’ starring Han Ji Min, Lee Min Ki, and EXO’s Suho, and while ‘Mask Girl’ and ‘The Killing Vote’ seem promising, we haven’t gotten around to watching those K-dramas yet.

Time really seems to have flown this year and it’s already time to anticipate new K-dramas for the month of September. Here are our picks:

1. A Time Called You

This is the one we’re looking forward to the most because Jeon Yeo Been has always truly impressed with her exceptional acting range and we’ve watched all the works of Korea-born Canadian heartthrob Ahn Hyo Seop so far *squeals*.

The time-travel mystery romance is a remake of the Taiwanese drama series ‘Someday or One Day’ and tells the story of a woman who is grieving the loss of her boyfriend who is transported back to the year 1998 and inhabits the body of a different person. Then, she meets a boy who bears an uncanny resemblance to her late love. The series also stars Kang Hoon (The Red Sleeve). Fun fact: the show features NewJeans’ first-ever OST!

Watch it on Netflix on 8 September.

2. Arthdal Chronicles: The Sword of Aramoon

The epic fantasy drama returns for its second season, four years after the first, despite the numerous controversies it has faced. It faced harsh criticisms for its similarities to the Game of Thrones, allegations of staff mistreatment, and fans were disappointed to learn that leading actors Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won would not be returning and would be replaced by Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung.

However, Lee Joon Gi is known for his ability to deliver action scenes with charisma, so fingers crossed that the show gets even better. The plot takes place 8 years later and is a time just before a clash in the land of Arth so expect a lot of action!

Release date: 9 September on TVN

3. The Worst of Evil

We haven’t personally enjoyed Ji Chang Wook’s dramas since Suspicious Partner back in 2017 (don’t shoot us, Backstreet Rookie didn’t really impress us) so here’s hoping that this one will be a hit because the trailer shows some real potential. Set in the 1990s, the crime drama follows undercover police investigators who infiltrate a massive criminal organization responsible for the illegal drug trade between South Korea, China, and Japan.

Ji Chang Wook will star as a police officer who infiltrates a drug gang while Wi Ha Joon (who’s really making a name for himself nowadays) acts as a leader of a criminal organisation. With these two hotties together on screen, we won’t know where to look.

Watch it on Disney+ Hotstar on 27 September.

4. Song of the Bandits

This historical drama has a unique and promising premise: it is set in the 1920s when the people of Joseon escape to the Gando region in China during the turbulent period of Japanese occupation. Kim Nam Gil plays Lee Yoon, a Japanese soldier who defected and now steals and kills to protect his countrymen in the new region. Meanwhile, Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun is the head of the railway bureau of the Japanese Government-General of Korea who has hidden her true identity. It also stars veteran actor Yoo Jae-myung (Reply 1988, Itaewon Class).

Watch it on Netflix on 22 September.

5. 7 Escape

Writer Kim Soon Ok and director Joo Dong Min, who both previously worked on popular K-dramas The Penthouse and The Last Empress have teamed up again for this revenge K-drama.

The all-star cast includes Uhm Ki Joon (Little Women), Hwang Jung Eum in her first drama since 2020 and her first villain role since her debut, former MBLAQ member Lee Joon , Yoon Jong Hoon and Shin Eun Kyung of The Penthouse fame, Lee Yu Bi (Yumi’s Cells), and Jo Yoon Hee (Nine). The wicked and twisted characters are involved in the unsolved disappearance of a young girl, Bang Da Mi and a story of bloody revenge will unravel.
