5 Creepiest Clowns in Pop Culture
Since Halloween is around the corner, there’s a worrying trend of random clowns popping out of nowhere terrorising people in the US. Although most of them are just harmless pranks, it definitely does not help to “make your day” in any way especially if you have coulrophobia (fear of clowns). In fact, there’s even a Twitter account called Clown Watch (@ClownWatching) dedicated to featuring clips and images of “Scariest and Creepiest Clown Sightings”. Let’s just keep on praying that this disturbing trend of killer clown pranks doesn’t catch up in our country.
In the meantime, let’s look back at five iconic clowns that may have been terrifying since you were a kid.
#5 Zeebo the Clown

If you’re a kid of the 90s, we’re pretty sure you’re familiar with the show Are You Afraid of the Dark? Oh you know, the show features a group of kids sitting in a circle near a campfire while exchanging hair-raising tales of stuff that are made up of your nightmares. One of the episodes featured Zeebo the Clown, who died in a fire. He’s one creepy clown you definitely don’t want to bump into and there’s only one way to prevent that from happening – never try to attempt to steal his red nose. He’s not very fond of it.#4 Twisty

Fans of American Horror Story: Freak Show have one person to blame for how petrifying Twisty looks; it’s none other than the show’s co-creator, Ryan Murphy. He said that Twisty was his attempt at making him “the most terrifying clown of all time” and he wanted to go head-on to people’s fear of clown. Geez Murphy, thanks for making everyone’s nightmare a reality.#3 The Clown Doll from Poltergeist

If you’ve watched this movie as a kid, we know you’ll remember this scene quite vividly. Well, it’s quite impossible to forget actually, the haunting image of a helpless kid being dragged down by his own clown doll. This movie proves why you should NEVER have a clown doll in your house. Unless, you’d like to live with trauma for life.#2 Zombie Clown

What’s worse than a killer clown? A killer clown zombie breed. Jesse Eisenberg’s character, Columbus is actually afraid of clowns and he finally conquered his fears by killing one. If only it was that easy to overcome your fears in real life.#1 Pennywise

Who could ever leave out the ‘father’ of all killer clowns, Pennywise from Stephen King’s It? After creeping up on people and terrorising them for the past 26 years, this jolly dancing maniac is getting its own reboot scheduled to debut in September 2017. Before you plan on watching it, we strongly advise you to consult your psychiatrist to see if you’ve recovered from your traumatic experience after seeing the original It.Do you have any other creepy clowns who you think should also make the list?
