Let's face it; we probably wouldn't think of taking the public transport to go to work, let alone an important event.

But for local actress Maya Karin, there's no better way to head to an award ceremony than taking the train.

Going green

While celebrities would prefer to turn up to award shows in a chauffeur-driven car, the 'Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam' actress recently made her way to an environmental awards ceremony organised by the Federal Territories Ministry on a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) train.

She shared her journey on the train by uploading a photo on her Instagram page:

Hmm geram sikit sebab dua minggu lepas operation mata tak boleh pakai make up mata. Otw to Masjid Jamek, event River of Life dengan orang awam dan menteri Wilayah Persekutuan. #riveroflife #riveroflifekl #malampenganugerahanROL #mrt #nostress

In her caption to the photo she wrote: "I am on the way to Masjid Jamek for the River Of Life with the Federal Territories Ministry and the public."

Netizens who saw the post praised the actress for being down-to earth and for setting a good example.

"Well done Maya! You're truly Malaysia's green ambassador," said Amir.

Maya, who recently posted another public service announcement (PSA) ‘swimming’ in a stream with rubbish floating all around her, also won the netizens hearts for always raising awareness about environmental issues.

Keep up the good job, Maya!
