Anne Hathaway has played multiple characters throughout her film career, especially her unforgettable debut role as a princess 16 years ago.

And now she could be playing Barbie in Sony Pictures’ upcoming live-action movie about every little girl’s favourite doll!

The Oscar-winning actress is currently in talks to star in the comedy as a doll who gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough.

The role originally went to Amy Schumer who had to forgo the role due to scheduling conflicts.

Although Hathaway isn’t exactly a standup comedian like Schumer, she has proven to have successful stints in comedic movies like The Devil Wears Prada and Get Smart.

It'll be fun to see her in another rags-to-riches role.
This could be a good opportunity to go beyond just simple comedy.

There is no official word from Sony just yet, but Australia director Alethea Jones is set to direct the film about the iconic Mattel character.

In the movie, the “imperfect” Barbie then begins her journey into the real world where it’s okay to be unique. She later returns to Barbieland with hopes to save it, only to realise that perfection comes from the inside and not from the outside.

The live-action Barbie is schedule to release on 29 June 2018.

Until we find out more about the movie, have fun getting this song out of your head:
