It’s been a few days since the movie of the decade, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ premiered on our silver screens.
Many of you were lucky enough to be among the first in the world to watch it; some on premiere day itself, some a few days later, and perhaps a handful of you who still haven’t seen it yet.
In Malaysia, to show how excited and supportive we were of the movie, we managed to rake in over RM10 million in advance ticket sales for ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
So, you might be wondering how the movie fared at the box office five days after its premiere?
Back then, no one knew this was a HUGE hint.
Well, get ready for this; ‘Avengers: Endgame’ just snapped previous Marvel movies AND other movies into oblivion with USD1.2 billion (RM4.96 billion) collection worldwide – making it the highest-grossing opening weekend movie in history!
Well, a lot of you bought premium tickets to see the movie and others watched it more than once over the span of five days (including us), so it’s no wonder they managed to pull in that gargantuan figure.
Given the strong start, there’s a very high possibility that the movie can surpass the top three worldwide grossers in no time: ‘The Force Awakens’ - US$2.068 billion (RM8.54 billion), ‘Titanic’ - US$2.187 billion (RM9.04 billion) and ‘Avatar’ - US$2.788 (RM11.52 billion).
Marvel execs be like...
The movie that concluded all past 21 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe ran for 181 minutes at the cinema and received outstanding reviews from critics and fans.
‘Endgame’ received a 96 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, just one per cent short of ‘Black Panther’, which is the highest-rated MCU movie ever.
After ‘Endgame’, ‘Spiderman: Far from Home’ will be debuting in July 2019 and after that, Marvel will be taking a break in 2020. Don’t know if that’ll sit well with fans considering the steady stream of Marvel movies that were released yearly for the past decade.
Now Marvel, what should we fans do to fill in the empty void in 2020?
