Ben Affleck, who plays the newest Batman in last year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, has decided to step down from directing the next The Batman after internal discussions with Warner Bros. Studios on what’s best for the movie. Nevertheless, he is still on board to produce and star in the film.

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Affleck said in a statement. “Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

Affleck’s past directorial roles include Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo, which won him a Golden Globe and BAFTA award for Best Director, as well as an Academy Award for Best Picture. His most recent gangster movie, Live By Night, didn’t do so well in the box office, making only US$10 million (RM44.3 million) in weeks.

Looks like the new Batman film may see further delays in its release date as they continue their search for a new director.
