It's a grim day for fans of 'Black Panther' as the actor who played the titular character, Chadwick Boseman, has passed away.

He was 43.

Long battle with cancer

According to a report by Variety, Boseman had been battling colon cancer for the past four years.

The actor's Twitter account confirmed the actor's passing via a tweet on Saturday (29 August):

According to the statement, Boseman had been diagnosed with with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2016.

Boseman passed away at home with his wife and family by his side.

“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. It was the honor of his life to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther,” the statement read.

Rest in peace, Chadwick Boseman. Thanks for bringing the 'Black Panther' to live. We will miss you.
