BoBoiBoy The Movie Creates History After Premiering in over 100 Korean Cinemas
Our entertainment industry may not be as big as Hollywood or Bollywood, let alone the local animation scene, but one thing’s for sure: we’ve got a pool of local talents that can bring our films to greater heights. In other words, internationally. This was the case with BoBoiBoy.
BoBoiBoy is arguably one of the most popular animated TV series in Malaysia and has managed to tap into other Asian markets such as Indonesia, Singapore, and Brunei.
On Wednesday, history was created after BoBoiBoy The Movie was showcased not only in another Asian country, but also a country that doesn’t speak our language – Korea.

The movie has been dubbed in Korean and is currently aired in over 100 cinemas across South Korea. What an accomplishment!

The film, produced by Animonsta Studios or now known as Monsta, became the first Malaysian-made movie to penetrate the Korean market.
According to their Chief of Marketing and Branding, Faiz Zainal Aabidin, “Usually we only hear Korean dramas or films being imported into the Malaysian market but for Malaysian movies to be imported to Korea, is something unheard of.”
He also told Utusan Online that the movie - which was previously showcased in four countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, and Singapore - had successfully raked in RM19 million!
Because of this, he’s pretty confident that the ticket sales will do well in Korea.
Well, we wish BoBoiBoy The Movie all the best and we would like to thank them for putting us on the map once again.
And to all you K-Drama fans, it’s time you take a break from all those soap operas and your fascination of Korean oppas, and watch the Korean version of this homegrown film instead!
