Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt has been one of the more 'colourful' characters in the Indian entertainment industry.

Unfortunately for him, his life is about to get more tragic as has reportedly been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Unfortunate diagnosis

According to a report by Times Of India, the star issued a statement on social media saying he was “taking a short break for some medical treatment”.

However, a tweet from respected film trade journalist Komal Nahta, confirmed that the 61-year-old has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will be travelling to the United States to seek treatment.
The website reported that Dutt was taken to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on 8 August when he complained of chest discomfort and shortness of breath.

He tested negative for COVID-19 and soon got discharged.

He was later diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer, Times Of India reported.

Sanjay has led a pretty tragic life.
Sanjay Dutt has been known as a troubled actor thoughout his entire life, so much so that he will be the subject of his own biopic.

He first broke into the Bollywood scene after performing his own stunts in action movies back in the 1980s, which earned him the nickname ‘Deadly Dutt’.

However, he struggled with substance abuse, including heroin and cocaine, which was rumoured to be sparked by the pain of losing his mother, Indian screen icon Nargis Dutt, to cancer.

He returned to the movies in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but was arrested later following the orchestrated bombings in Bombay, in March 1993 that killed 257 people.

Dutt was eventually convicted in 2006 of holding guns supplied by mafia bosses who carried out the blasts, and he spent 18 months in jail. He was released on bail in 2007 and sent back to jail for another five years after failing the appeal process.

Despite all his struggles, we hope he gets well soon.
