It’s been almost 16 years since the movie debuted and it’s definitely time for a new version or spin-off of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros is set to release ‘Wonka’, a prequel to Roald Dahl’s 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.

The film will showcase the origin story of Willy Wonka in his early childhood days and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.

While there's been no official word yet on who will play young Wonka, rumours are floating that the studio is currently eyeing either Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet for the titular role, Collider reported.

Well it’s hard to imagine both actors pulling off the eccentric character played by Depp previously, but we’ll never know until we see it.

The prequel has been in the pipeline for over four years and Warner Bros has finally announced a date for the film.

‘Wonka’ will be directed by ‘Harry Potter’ producer David Heyman and is slated to premiere on 17 March 2023.
