Controversial rapper and songwriter Namewee has been named as the Songwriter with the Highest Earnings by the Music Authors' Copyright Protection (MACP) during its Anugerah MACP 2021.

Namewee, whose real name is Huang Ming Zhi was also named as Top Earning Work from Foreign Societies for his song Piao Xiang Bei Fang (Stranger In The North), reported New Straits Times.

Apart from giving recognition to the 38-year-old artiste, the annual awards also honoured many other local talents.

Among them include Datuk M. Nasir's company Luncai Emas which earned the Highest Earning Local Publisher and rapper, singer as well as composer Muhammad Raziq Rosli who received the Young Composer with Potential Award.

The Anugerah Juara Lagu-winning song Sumpah sung by Naim Daniel and co-written with Omar K was named Malay Work with Most Performances, while English Work with Most Performances went to I Am Me sung by Datuk Seri Vida and written by Edry Abd Halim.

Chairman of MACP Berhad, M. Nasir, said "MACP is always dedicated to upholding the confidence placed on it by its members. These MACP awards are presented to honour and inspire lyricists and composers in the country to work without discouragement."

"Make this award a stepping stone for all authors to produce a wide variety of high quality compositions in accordance with modern market demands," MACP Berhad Chairman M. Nasir said in a statement as quoted in the report.

Anugerah MACP recognises and acknowledges the creative personnel who contribute to the development of the local music industry while MACP itself was established in 1989 as a non-profit collective management organisation to govern the public performance and broadcasting rights of its members.
