A Los Angeles jury found that popular singer Katy Perry has copied the beat of her hit song "Dark Horse" from a Christian rap song!
How embarrassing for her!
According to a report by CNN, the ruling found similarities between "Dark Horse" and "Joyful Noise" by Marcus Gray.
However, during her trial, Perry defended herself, saying that she has never heard of the rap song and insisted that her song was original.
She said her collaborators had brought her samples of short instrumental passages, which inspired the song while her team said two songs’ underlying beat was “commonplace” and therefore cannot be copyrighted.
The court has not yet decided on how much Perry must pay Gray for damages, but we're guessing it's going to be a lot.
