Des…pa…cito…

Some have this song on loop all day and all night long, some are sick of it from the moment we hear the first word.

And some want radio stations to stop playing it, but not because they’ve already heard it a thousand times that day.

Angkatan Wanita Amanah Nasional (Awan) has reportedly urged Malaysian radio stations to stop playing the Spanish hit, “Despacito”, because of its alleged sexually explicit lyrics.

The organisation is concerned that many young kids are singing along to the song without understanding the meaning behind the lyrics.

According to a report by The Star, Arts and Culture chairperson Atriza Umar said songs that contain sexual and violent lyrics should be banned from Malaysia because they are inappropriate for our culture here.

She hopes that the responsible parties would pay more attention in censoring “problematic songs”, and that local artists would work together to produce high quality entertainment that is moral.

She also commended those who took the initiative to alter the lyrics of the song and make it more decent.

Despacito” is a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and rapper Daddy Yankee, and it featured a remix by international pop star Justin Bieber - probably one of the main reasons it went straight to the top of the charts all over the world.

Speaking of going round the world, this woman recorded her husband snoring for four years and remixed it with the song!
