On this Friday the 13th (if you don't know the significance of this particular day, Google it), Dukun will premiere at the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) 2018.
According to Astro Shaw, the thriller starring Datin Seri Umie Aida as Diana Dahlan, or the dukun, will be competing in the 'Audience Award' category, in which the winner is determined by votes from American filmmakers and audiences.
Based on one of Malaysia's most high-profile court trials involving Mona Fandey, more widely known as the bomoh who murdered a politician in the 1990s, the film hit RM10 million in box office within 20 days.
Dukun has also crossed borders to Singapore and Brunei shortly after its release in April, and it may even be screened in Indonesia next month, as reported by New Straits Times.
The movie had to endure more than a decade's wait despite having been completed 12 years ago, reportedly due to the graphic nature and gruesome storyline.
Will audiences in the West be able to appreciate a story like Dukun? We'll soon find out.
