The long-anticipated award-winning local film ‘The Garden of Evening Mists’ (TGOEM) is now finally in theatres.
There has been a lot of great feedback from both fans and critics with many raving about the amazing setting and scenery in the movie.
If you’re a big fan and you’re curious to know where they filmed it, we’ve got great news for you!
Here’s a list of some of the shooting locations you can actually check out for yourself!

#1 Cameron Highlands Tea Plantations

The scenic Bharat Tea Plantation. Both Bharat and Boh Tea Plantations were featured in the movie. Yun Ling’s cottage which she stayed at was filmed at the former while the Cameron Highlands tea plantation scenery was filmed at the latter. Unfortunately, you may not be able to find her cottage anymore as the production crew took it down after filming ended.

#2 Temoh Resort, Perak

Who knows, the garden might still be there... Did you love Aritomo’s house? The main character’s Japanese-style home and the mesmerising garden surrounding it was filmed in Temoh Resort, Perak.

#3 VIP Bungalow & Hatters Castle, Carey Island

Beautiful cottage bungalow! One of the houses we fell in love with in TGOEM was Magnus’s house, Sevenoaks. The stunning building has been around since the 1920s and is known as Hatters Castle IRL. The cottage bungalow is located in Carey Island, Klang and was designed by Edward Valentine John Carey, the founder of the island.

#4 Mossy Forest, Cameron Highlands

Have you been to Mossy Forest before? Many of you may be familiar with the Mossy Forest thanks to its enchanting looks. This beautiful forest was where the hiking scene involving Yun Ling and Aritomo was taken. This was also where Yun Ling shared the harrowing tale of the labour camp where she and her sister were held captive.

#5 Sungai Lembing Mines, Sungai Lembing

The land that holds many historical stories... As far as we know, the actual Japanese labour campsites no longer exist. The production team had to specially build a new one near Sungai Lembing Mines in Pahang. This was where the scenes for the labour camp were filmed. The camp, however, was demolished after they finished filming.
‘The Garden of Evening Mists’ is now in cinemas nationwide
