If like me, you grew up watching the original Fantastic Four films starring the epic quartet Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis which first came out in 2005. Marvel has assembled a new cast for ANOTHER reboot movie (a box office bomb came out in 2015), and they have confirmed the new actors via a fun graphic on their Instagram page, which seems to hint at a 60s aesthetic.

When did plans for the new movie first start?
I genuinely can’t remember the 2015 reboot film (which is no surprise as it lost 20th Century Fox over $80 million) which starred Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kata Mara, and Jamie Bell.

According to People, Marvel previously teased the introduction of the Fantastic Four back in 2022 when John Krasinski played an alternate version of Reed Richards who was quickly killed off in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Works for this second reboot and third movie adaptation of the comic started way back in 2019 when Disney first acquired the rights to the characters through their deal with Fox. Marvel president Kevin Feige later confirmed the film during San Diego Comic-Con.

Who is part of the new cast?

The new cast already promises to be better than the 2015 film but it remains to be seen if they will be better than the original. I personally think it will be hard for anyone to fill Jessica Alba and Chris Evans’ shoes, but TikTok’s no.1 Zaddy Pedro Pascal will probably do all the heavy lifting in this film.
When will the movie be out?

The Fantastic Four will be released in theatres on 25 July 2025 and will be part of Phase 6 of the MCU.

According to Variety, filming for the new movie is expected to begin by summer 2024. Director Shakman previously told Collider that the movie would film in London at Pinewood Studios. Many other Marvel projects have been filmed here, including The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the Loki series.

He said, “We are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I think it's going to be unlike anything you've seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you've seen before.”

What will the movie be about?

The Fantastic Four revolves around four characters who gain superpowers after exposure to cosmic rays during a scientific mission to outer space. Marvel president Kevin Feige has teased that the movie would not centre around how the Fantastic Four got their powers as previous films have.

During the San Diego Comic Con in 2022, he said, “A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?”.

Who will be working on the film?

The film will be directed by Matt Shakman, who produced and directed Wanda Vision and also directed episodes of the Game of Thrones.

In September 2022, Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer (weirdly both aren’t known for anything famous) were selected to write the script. Then in March 2023, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Josh Friedman, who previously worked on Avatar: The Way of Water and has worked on Avatar 4 & 5, would be reworking the script.
