'Fame' The Musical Is Coming To Malaysia With A Local Twist

Jessica Chua 06/07/2017 | 08:10 MYT
The popular musical from the 1980s Fame will be staged in Malaysia and you don’t want to miss it.
Local musical theatre school Monday Show Entertainment and The Actors Studio have teamed up to bring the story of Fame back to life, but with a Malaysian twist.
The musical follows students from the College of Performing Arts (P.A.) in their journey through life at this prestigious college of the arts.
In the story, the characters encounter many challenges during their time at college – girls who want to be skinny, boys who want to keep their pride, some who want to be famous fast, and others who realise that even the most talented and ambitious ones would face a roadblock called reality.
Fame is directed by Monday Show Entertainment creative director Dominic Lucien Luk and choreographed by Michael Parks.
The show also incorporates the original songs and lyrics by Steve Margoshes and Jacques Levy, including its popular theme song, "Fame" from the 1980 and 2009 movies conceptualised by David De Silva.
Fame stars a bunch of cast members who are part of Monday Show Entertainment’s musical theatre training programme, where classes are held twice a week for teenagers and young adults to improve their singing, dancing and acting skills.
This production also marks the fifth year the school has been running this training programme.
The past shows produced by Monday Show Entertainment include Avenue Q, Monday Show Exposed, Monday Blues and Other Hues, and a series of musical shows called Small Stage held at SS15 in Subang Jaya.
Fame will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) this 14 to 22 July. Tickets are selling fast so make sure you get yours now at www.ticketpro.com.my or directly from the KLPAC Box Office!
