Famous Horror Book Series Mr Midnight Now on Netflix, Featuring Malaysian Actor
Remember when Mr Midnight’s books were bestsellers in commercial bookstores nationwide? The Singaporean horror franchise swept the country with its colourful covers and spooky stories.
Created by Jim Aitchison or James Lee, every horror-loving 90s child had a copy of their books - or at least a photocopied version.
This month, Mr Midnight returns once again but in a different form; television. The popular book series teams up with streaming giant Netflix to produce an original Netflix production named after the franchise called ‘Mr Midnight: Beware the Monsters’.

Set in modern-day Singapore, the series follows a group of teenagers as they blog about their paranormal encounters. Mr Midnight stars a fresh new cast list with names like Chen Yixin, Caleb Monk, Nikki Decker and Adina Wirasti.
A notable name on the list is Idan Aedan, a Malaysian up-and-coming actor plying his trade on the international stage. Hailing from Perak, Idan Aedan was previously in productions like Pulang, Zombitopia and Disney’s Wizards of Warna Walk with Mia Sara Shauki.
Rival author Russel Lee, famous for his own horror series ‘True Singapore Ghost Stories’ also congratulated James Lee on the launch of the Netflix show.
It is unclear whether Mr Midnight will explore popular plots from the book series like Madman’s Mansion, My Creepy Computer or There’s A Ghost in My Photo. Let’s hope there’ll be a lot of easter eggs from the original books!
