Throughout history, we've seen a fair share of the perfect on-screen couples: Jack and Rose, Noah and Allie, Luke Han and Leia and soon, Deadpool and the Avengers.

That's right, geeks; there's a very high chance that everybody's favourite anti-hero will be joining the crime-fighting gang.

Disney, the owner of Marvel Studios, is reportedly very close to acquring 20th Century Fox, who owns the rights to Deadpool.

According to a report by financial website Fortune, Disney has restarted talks to buy over Fox's film studio, cable channels and international networks.

Initial discussions about a potential takeover started a couple of weeks ago but the deal reportedly fell through.

Now, US news site Bloomberg reports that Disney is the favourite to acquire 20th Century Fox.

If (or when) the deal goes through, Disney will reacquire the rights to the Merc with a Mouth, 'The Fantastic Four' and also the 'X-Men'.

(Brief history lesson: back in the 90s, Marvel was forced to 'loan' or sell some of the rights of these characters to other film studios to avoid bankruptcy.)

As The Avengers series is coming to a close and with Disney recently announcing that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will look very different after 'Avengers: Infinity War', reacquiring Deadpool, 'X-Men' and 'The Fantastic Four' will be an absolute win for the movie studio.

And if that's not enough to make you geekheads excited, 'Deadpool' star Ryan Reynolds has given a thumbs up for the Deadpool-Avengers crossover.

In an interview with US entertainment site Total Film, the 41-year-old actor said Deadpool joining the Avengers would be "a great idea".

"Can you imagine the sh*t-talking contest with Iron Man? Oh, that would be great. But it would have to be rated R to completely unharness everybody. Unbridle the merriment and watch them go," Reynolds said.

Come on Disney and Marvel, make it happen please!
