Over the years, we've seen plenty of local performers gracing the international stage:

We can soon add one more to the list.

Representing the country

A Malaysian singer has gotten the opportunity to represent the country by performing at the Round Festival – Asean-Korea Music Festival 2021 (AKMF2021) organised by South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sophiatul Liana Mohamed Sobri, or better known as Sophia Liana, will belt out five songs at the event which will take place on 9 January next year, Harian Metro reported.

According to the festival's website, the event aims to connect Asean countries and Korea through the universal language of music, facilitate an exchange of cultures and foster mutual solidarity.

"I am very excited to represent Malaysia and this is a very big opportunity for me and my team, Budak Ngam. This is the time to feature the talents available in our music industry.

"I received the good news during the middle of the month. My manager gave my profile to the South Korean organisers and two weeks later we received the green light for me to represent Malaysia.

Sophia told the Malay news portal that she and her team are in the midst of finalising her set list, before hashing out the concept, outfits and technical aspects later.

"Praise be to God, everything is coming along as we planned," the 31-year-old told Harian Metro.

Sophia, who is also a member of popular local girl group De Fam, plans to highlight the unique traditions of Malaysia in her performance by incorporating it into her rapping and mixing it with urban hip hop elements.

AKMF2021 will be conducted in the "on-tact" format where viewers around the world can watch it as a virtual event online, so yes; you can tune in to cheer our girl on.

Way to go, Sophia Liana! We are all so proud of you!
