‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Director Reveals Heartbreaking Truth About Groot And We're Officially Sad

When 'Guardians of the Galaxy '(GOTG) ended, all of us were very sure that the small little tree that came to life after his (spoiler alert) death was actually still Groot, making us believe that Groot was reborn.

That fact remained with us from the first movie until the sequel. Groot didn’t exatcly grow up in 'GOTG 2' as we all expected him to, so we thought it was just a delayed growth spurt.

But baby Groot was so cute and adorable so we didn't mind if he stayed that way forever.

But lo and behold, the director of the movie, James Gunn, revealed something very heartbreaking recently.

The director tweeted that the “First Groot is dead. Baby Groot is his son.” And everyone (including us) lost their minds.

What do you mean Groot is dead?! We deserve to know this way earlier and not after two 'GOTG' movies, Gunn!

apparently baby groot isn’t OG groot, just at a younger stage, but technically a sapling of OG groot, not retaining any of OG groot’s memories aka groot’s son... so technically OG groot is dead and now my heart hurts.

Today it was confirmed that Baby Groot is actually Groots son and not Groot reborn, which means Groot is dead and I never even mourned him

So, Groot really did die in the first installment after he sacrificed himself to save his friends. Guess a funeral and memorial service for Groot is now in order.

Let us all mourn the death of our beloved Groot, who had a noble heart and loved his friends so much that he took a bullet for his fellow comrades.

Baby Groot will appear in 'Avengers: Infinity War' but he’ll no longer be a baby as he’s grown up into a teenager now.
