In Japan, 'Detective Conan' Is Bigger Than 'Avengers: Endgame'

While 'Avengers: Endgame' is well on its way to becoming the highest-grossing movie ever in the history of cinema, things are completely different in Japan.

The final 'Avengers' movie is dominating the box office in several countries -- including Australia, China, South Korea and the United Kingdom -- but in the Land of the Rising Sun, people cared more about a cartoon character than a group of superheroes because the highest-grossing movie in the country is...

'Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire'.

The movie has so far collected a whopping USD68mil (RM283mil) at the box office. By comparison, 'Endgame' grossed 'only' USD35mil (RM146mil).

In fact, while 'Endgame' is still number one in a couple of countries three weeks into its release, it only lasted a week at the top position of Japan’s box office.

The second week collection for 'Avengers: Endgame' showed a 45 per cent reduction when compared to the previous week.

This, however, is not the first time it happened in Japan. Last year, another 'Detective Conan' movie bumped 'Avengers: Infinity War' off the top of the box office.

Well, you could say that Detective Conan is the Avengers' greatest enemy, not Thanos.

To date, 'Avengers: Endgame' has earned USD2.34bil (RM9.74bil) at the worldwide box office. James Cameron’s 'Avatar' is the current record holder for the highest collection at the worldwide box office with USD2.78bil (RM11.57bil).
