90s kids, we’re pretty confident you’re familiar with legendary local cartoon TV shows such as ‘Keluang Man’ and ‘Usop Sontorian’.
And these iconic characters wouldn’t be here to colour our wonderful childhood without its creator, Kamaruddin Ismail, also known as Kamn Ismail, who sadly passed away at the age of 63 on Sunday evening.
According to the New Straits Times, Kamn died at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) at 4.15pm after suffering from a heart attack and other ailments.
He has been receving treatment at UMMC for the past two months.
"On behalf of Animas, we are saddened by his passing and we extend our condolences to his family," Malaysian Animation Society (Animas) Amir Hamzah Hashim said.
Kamn was the pioneer for Malaysian animation, by using computer animation and 2D and 3D hybrid animation in the 90s.
Fans of the animated series were sad for his loss and express the news via Twitter.

One of the pioneers for our local animation scenes. Usop Santorian was the first locally made cartoon series to be broadcasted and Keluang Man was the first Malaysian 'superhero'. Thank you for creating such iconic and brilliant cartoons, a legend. ? https://t.co/EKzua9xQWh— izzi (@IzzRaifHarz) December 8, 2019
Usop Sontorian doesn't receive enough credit, but only because Keluang Man was funnier. Usop is more legendary because it came first (I believe) and it was the 'Aku Budak Minang' for its generation that also broke ground in animation.Kita takkan lupakan kau, Kamn.Al-Fatihah. https://t.co/J9k0RYWviI— Ramal Jaslan (@jamalraslan) December 9, 2019
Thank you Kamn for the joyous childhood memories. You will be remembered always.Zaman kami dulu tiada Boboi & Ejen Ali tapi kami ada Usop Sontorian & Keluang Man. Hari ini orang penting yang terlibat dalam kewujudan karakter tersebut telah pergi meninggalkan kita semua.Tenanglah Kamn Ismail. Takziah untuk keluarga. Sesungguhnya mati itu pasti.
