From Kg. Durian Runtuh To Canada: ‘Upin & Ipin’ Film Bags International Animation Award
Popular local animated TV show ‘Upin & Ipin’ has found a place in the hearts of not only Malaysian children, but also Indonesian and other countries across the region as well.
So, it’s no surprise that every time an ‘Upin & Ipin’ movie hits the cinemas, it’ll do very well at the box office.
And recently, the latest ‘Upin & Ipin’ film – ‘Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal’ - not only did well at the local box office, but also internationally at a prestigious award ceremony.
Les’ Copaque in an Instagram post shared that the film won the award for the ‘Best Film Feature’ category at the Montreal International Film Festival Animation 2019 (ANIMAZE).
65 countries sent in their entries to participate in this year’s ANIMAZE.
‘Keris Siamang Tunggal’, or also known as ‘The Lone Gibbon Kris’, made some serious money at the box office this year after raking in a whopping RM25 million!
‘BoBoiBoy Movie 2’ recently surpassed Upin & Ipin’s box office record after scoring RM27.7 million in just 26 days.
This goes to show that Malaysia’s animation industry is growing at a very healthy and rapid rate, so let’s hope that we will be the next Asian animated film giant for years to come.
Congratulations to our two favourite bald boys on the win.
Malaysia boleh!
