Kim Kardashian’s $11 Million Heist: What We Know So Far

On Monday morning, startling reports broke out that reality TV star Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris. Masked men raided her lavish apartment hotel in the Eighth Arrondissement and managed to flee with her jewellery worth millions of dollars. Here’s what we know so far:

#1 The robbery took place while Kim Kardashian was sleeping.

At 2.25am, five masked men wearing police arm bands stormed into her apartment, pointed a gun to her head, tied her up and locked her in the bathroom. She was apparently sleeping and was woken up by the sound of the robbers running up the stairs. Before she could do anything to call for help, her phone was snatched from her. It was reported that Kim pleaded for her life and said “Please don’t kill me! I have children...” while being held at gunpoint.

#2 Over USD11 million worth of jewellery was taken during the heist.

The robbers fled the scene with a box containing jewels worth USD5.6 million to USD6.7 million (RM23.07 million to RM27.6 million) and a Lorraine Schwartz ring worth USD4.5 million (RM18.54 million) which was gifted by her husband, Kanye West. Kim was very fond of her diamond engagement ring which she frequently flaunts on her social media platforms and was just uploaded to her Instagram four days ago.

#3 The assailants fled the scene in the most unconventional way.

According to Reuters, the robbers escaped on bicycles.

#4 Other Kardashian family members were not present during the incident.

Kim’s sisters, Kendall and Kourtney, were out partying at the Arc nightclub along with her personal bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, just two miles away from her apartment. Duvier and her two sisters were alerted by Kim’s friend, Simone Harouche, who was downstairs and immediately locked herself in the bathroom during the robbery to call for help. Her children, North and Saint, were not with her during the robbery and husband Kanye West was performing in New York City.

#5 Kanye West immediately stopped his show after receiving the terrifying news.

The rapper was performing his song, Heartless, during his set at the Meadows festival in New York City when he suddenly stopped the show and apologised “I’m sorry, there’s a family emergency, I have to stop the show.” Fans who were confused at that time were upset with the announcement.

#6 New reports suggest that the heist might be an inside job

French police now suspect that the robbers had possible contact with her security and were tipped off about her procedures, a source told the New York Post.

“They knew there was no security [with her inside her apartment that night]. All they had to do was go in, make contact with someone inside the hotel. The police are also talking to bodyguards who worked with her earlier in the week.”
