Widely considered the father of Malaysian animation, the late Kamn Ismail was honoured in a Google Doodle in conjuction with his 67th birthday.

Credited for creating lovable characters in the Usop and Keluang Man series, Kamn pioneered the use of computer technology in animation with the series Usop Sontorian.

The series took 94 people almost three years to complete the series that was aired on RTM's TV1 and it became an instant hit. His follow up hit Keluang Man pushed the envelope further by combining 2D characters with 3D backdrops.

Keluang Man is getting a movie adaptation which will be produced by Astro. The announcement of the movie trended on Twitter and we took the chance to do our own fan casting for the film.

We've come a long way from this series with the likes of Upin and Ipin, Boboiboy, and the recently release Mechamato. To read more about what it takes to create a series and movie these days, check out our interview with Nazir Razak for Mechamato the Movie.

Kamn Ismail is survived by his daughter, Dalila Kamaruddin who shared "On behalf of my family, I would like to say thank you to Google Malaysia for this recognition of Kamn Ismail and the opportunity to be part of this project. I am honoured.”
