A Live-Action Detective Pikachu Movie Is In The Works And Our Hearts Are Bursting With Cuteness
Pokémon fans, you should know by now that a Pokémon spin-off movie based on one of its video games, Great Detective Pikachu, is getting its own live-action remake.
No word yet on when will the movie be released on the silver screens, but filming is slated to kick off in London starting January 2018.
The movie will reportedly be produced by Legendary Pictures, the company who churned out blockbuster hits such as Kong: Skull Island, Straight Outta Compton, Jurassic World, Interstellar, and Godzilla.
Technically, Detective Pikachu is not like the usual Pikachu we all grew to love. This version of the electrifying gerbil has some serious detective skills and wears a Sherlock Holmes hat, perhaps as homage to the great British detective.
The super-intelligent Pokémon is also capable of high-level verbal communication and is said to be “bossy, talkative, and lovable.”
And if you’re wondering whether Pokémon Trainer Ash Ketchum will be making an appearance, well, very likely not as the video game does not feature him but instead a young lad by the name of Tim Goodman, who befriends Detective Pikachu.
So, who will voice the lovable yellow Pokémon?
According to several entertainment reports, the studio is considering one of four Hollywood megastars – Hugh Jackman, Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Mark Wahlberg although all of them have yet to be approached for the role.
We’re very curious to see a Hollywood take on this popular Japanese game and anime. And at the same time, we wonder which Hollywood actor will get the role.
Guess it’ll take about 1,432,789 Pokémon battles until we find out!
