Having your face being plastered on the giant electronic billboard at New York's Times Square is indeed a great achievement.

A Malaysian singer just unlocked that achievement.

Another local celeb making the country proud

Malaysian singer Iman Troye became the latest local celebrity to be featured on the digital billboard at New York Times Square.

According to a report by News Straits Times, the18-year-old is the Malaysian representative for the EQUAL campaign, a global programme by digital music streaming platform Spotify, in its efforts to highlight female artistes around the world.

"Praise be to God, I am truly thankful for this honour. It is a big achievement for someone who is considered relatively new in the local music industry, what more being a Malaysian Muslim singer who dons the hijab.

"I hope I will be able to continue to fulfil the wishes of my supporters and followers. I would also like to thank my family, friends, and supporters for the undying love and support they have shown me throughout my musical career," the singer said in a statement, as quoted in the report.

There are currently 35 local EQUAL playlists covering artists from over 50 countries, and Iman represents the EQUAL playlists in Malaysia and Singapore.

In September, local girl group Dolla also graced the same digital billboard as part of the EQUAL campaign:
