The Long-Awaited Anwar Ibrahim Movie Finally Gets a Trailer, Will Be Out in May 2023
It’s not every day you get to see a film produced based on the story of a Malaysian prime minister. In fact, this will be the first.
In 2022, popular cartoonist turned film producer Zunar or Zukiflee Anwar Haque announced that a new film based on PM10 Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was in the works and seasoned actor Farid Kamil (Lagenda Budak Setan, Remp-It) will play the role of the current prime minister.
Yesterday, the producer launched the official trailer for the movie, Anwar Ibrahim the Untold Story, alongside a release date.
According to Zunar, the film is based on Anwar’s life during his time as Malaysian finance minister from 1991 to 1998; a once-promising yet turbulent period in his political career. The film will also see Hasnul Rahmat (Police Evo 2, Mantra) take on the role of former Prime Minister and nemesis, Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamed.
Directed by Viva Westi (Pocong Keliling, Mursala), the film will also feature known Indonesian actress Acha Septriasa (Heart, Kartini) as Anwar’s wife and PKR leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
From the trailer and excerpts of the movie, it seems like we’re going to get an instant tear-jerking classic out of the RM10 million-cost film.
