The 80s was the golden decade for modern horror films. Classics like Child’s Play, The Shining, Evil Dead, Hellraiser, Friday the 13th, and Pet Sematary were all from the same decade. In Malaysia, specifically in 1987, a cult classic spooked the nation with thrilling story in Rahsia.

The 1987 Rahsia was directed by Othman Hafsham and featured top actors at the time Shukery Hashim, Noorkumalasari, Noraini Hashim and Liza Othman. According to many, Rahsia was one of the pioneers of modern Malaysian horror as it introduced a type of jumpscares that were never seen in any Malaysian productions prior to its release.

This week, Astro Shaw and Five Star Trading announced a reboot of Rahsia, a modern retelling of the cult classic, produced for today’s audience.

Interestingly, the director for this reboot is none other than Othman Hafsham’s own son, Shamyl Othman. Shamyl made quite the name for himself in the entertainment industry with films like Kami Histeria and Rembat under his belt. He also directed most episodes in the much-celebrated teen romcom series, Kau vs Aku.

On top of that, One Cent Thief showrunner Alfie Palermo worked hand in hand with Shamyl as the scriptwriter in the film. Alfie needs no introduction, as his impressive portfolio includes Juvana, J Revolusi, J2: Retribusi, Pusaka and more.

Spearheading the castlist is A-lister Nabila Huda, famously known for her roles in horror movies such as Munafik, Halimun, Harum Malam, M4M4 and more. The daughter of the legendary singer Amy Search will play the role of Ramlah, the main protagonist.

Nabila Huda is joined by the likes of Rashidi Ishak, Marsha Milan Londoh, Fikry Ibrahim, Eman Manan, Nabil Zakaria, Aloy Paradoks and more. Rumor has it that the original director, Othman Hafsham, will also make a special appearance alongside Susan Lankaster.

Rahsia will be out on the 10th of August in all cinemas nationwide.
