That's because a Malaysian filmmaker has made us proud by winning the big prize at the oldest film festival in Asia recently!
The film's latest award
Quek Shio Chuan’s movie titled ‘Guang’ picked up the 'Best Film' award at the 59th Asia Pacific Film Festival (APFF) in Macau on Wednesday (8 January), the Malay Mail reported.
The movie, which is about an autistic young man struggling to find a job to support his family but unknowingly has a gift for music, made history by becoming the first ever film to win the award at the film festival since its inception in 1954.
The National Film Development Corporation (Finas) announced the good news on their official Facebook page:
With a production budget of just RM2 million, 'Guang' has been pulling in awards left, right and center.
Last year, the movie won four trophies at the 30th Malaysian Film Festival: 'Best Art Direction', 'Most Promising Actor (Male)' for Kyo Chen, 'Most Promising Director' for Quek Shio Chuan and 'Best Cinematography'.
Besides that, the film had also been nominated at the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival and Asia Fukuoka International Film 2018.
In case you're wondering, the last Malaysian film to win an award at the APFF was Dain Iskandar Said’s ‘Interchange’ back in 2016.
