Malaysian-made Mechamato the Animated Series Won the Anime Fan Award at Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2023
In another round of good news after Michelle Yeoh’s inevitable triumph at the Oscars, a Malaysian production made headlines in their own industry - this time at the land of the rising sun.
Mechamato the Animated Series, produced by local company MONSTA, scored big by winning the prestigious ‘Anime Fan Award’ at the Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2023 - making them the first animation production based outside of Japan to win the award.
Winners from past years include IDOLiSH7 Second Beat!, IDOLiSH7 Third Beat! and the once-viral, Yuri!!! on ICE.
Receiving the award on stage was the Chief Executive Officer of MONSTA himself, Anas Abdul Aziz, donning a full Baju Melayu at the event. The writer-producer also took his time to thank his team and fans on Twitter after the ceremony.

The success of the series landed MONSTA a movie with Astro Shaw. Mechamato the Movie was an instant hit in Malaysia, gaining a whopping RM34 million in 28 days.
